Therapeutic Horse Riding
Providing one to one therapeutic coaching sessions to children and adults. This service is person-centred and designed to provide the rider with an equine based activity that is fun and rewarding. As one of a small group of FETAC qualified therapeutic riding coaches, therapeutic horse riding is a specialised field. Providing a rider with an equine does not classify it as 'therapeutic'; therapeutic riding coaches and the equines they use are specifically trained to provide the rider with a therapeutic team based approach in which the rider benefits from the multi-dimensional movement of the horse as a physical and sensory therapy. Riders are more open to learning new skills as a result which can cross over into day to day life.
Miniature Therapy Horse - multiple location visits
Avoca is an American Miniature Horse and is 28 inches high. Avoca is a gentleman and very calm and loves meeting new people. Avoca is fully insured (public liability etc) to visit multiple locations such as nursing homes, special needs schools, residential and day services for people with intellectual and physical disabilities, etc. This service is free of charge (though donations would be appreciated). Avoca has visited some day services for adults with intellectual and physical disabilities, nursing homes and children's hospice in the counties of Waterford, Tipperary, Cork and Dublin.
Work experience / volunteering
Trish's Rockin' Horses Therapeutic Riding Centre welcomes volunteers and people on work experience. All will be supervised and work side by side with the Therapeutic Riding Coach. They will learn how to care for the horses and their equipment, assist with therapeutic riding sessions as a leader / helper, and ride the horses when not being used in TR sessions
